As the UK public sector begins to look to ways in which service delivery cna be streamlined and at less cost, it is, perhaps, no surprise to hear that, on 02 March 2010, PADA, the UK Government 'Personal Accounts Delivery Authority, confirmed Tata Consultancy Services, TCS, as the successful bidder for National Employment Savings Trust, NEST, scheme administration services. But, let us hope that this deal is not blighted by the public sector clients' propensity to over complicate matters. PADA intends to sign a contract with TCS later in March. The contract will be divided into two stages running in total for 10 years, with possible extensions for up to a further five years. The first stage will run to October 2010, allowing TCS to begin the activity required to set up and administer NEST. Prior to the expiry of the first stage, a decision will be made on whether to proceed with the contract for the remainder of the contract term. All of this sounds like prudent project management but we all know how something that sounds so sensuble can soon becaome an off-putting form filling fest in the hands of bureaucrats.
