Infosys closes Thai BPO centre

Indian software and services provider Infosys has closed its BPO centre in Bangkok, it was announced this week. Activity at the unit in the Thai capital was terminated due to an inability to scale up; the Thaindian News quoted Infosys CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan as saying that the centre “was sub-scale. It had around 50 employees and most of the work from the centre had been transferred to other centres.”

Work previously carried out in Bangkok has been moved to India and China along with a number of employees, according to the International Business Times.

The Bangkok unit was taken over along with infrastructure in India and Poland when Infosys BPO acquired Philips Global’s three captive back-office centres in July 2007. Infosys maintains that the recent restructuring is part of its strategy to optimise operations for Philips, carrying out work in the most optimal location in terms of capability and cost.
